Healthy Eating

Providing you with healthy options is something your dining team proudly does every day. We help you select delicious, nutritious and satisfying meals, snacks and desserts by highlighting well-balanced menu choices and providing nutritional information and tips to help you make choices that fit your needs.

Simple Servings: A station that does not feature 8 of the top 9 allergens (including wheat, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, eggs, shellfish and sesame). We do feature fin fish as a protein option. This food is prepped in its own area in the kitchen and brought out to the serving lines where an attendant serves it. The attendant is trained on allergens and cross-conact. The serving and prepping utensils are both purple as another reminder that this is an allergen free station. Signage is available at the station which describes the food and lists any allergens present (outside of the 8 previously listed). If you have any questions about the food being served, you can ask the attendant. If the attendant does not know the answer, he/she will ask the kitchen staff to come out and answer the question. This station is open for brunch and dinner on the weekends and lunch and dinner during the week. Although the food at the station is paired to go together, you may pick and choose what you want rather than get all the options.

Naz Bowls: A made to order, customizable station offering lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Different options of grains, proteins, greens, fresh toppings, and homemade dressings will be available to build your own bowl. This station is currently featuring foods with a Mediterranean flare. Local products are featured throughout the entire Dining Commons, including organic chicken breasts, NYS beef and pork products, local produce, and local cheeses.

The Grill: A station that offers made to order sandwiches (grilled cheese, burgers, cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches) for lunch every day. If interested, students can also request grilled chicken breast and the grill cooks will serve that as well. Eggs are available to order every day at breakfast and lunch. You can fill out a chit (including the style of eggs and topping selections) and our grill cooks will make your eggs to order. During dinner service, the grill offers one signature item made to order and customizable, which features fresh ingredients. Premium items may include fresh grilled burgers, grilled kabobs, garbage plates, fish tacos, quesadillas, and burrito bowls. It is important to note, we use canola oil in our fryers. The fries at the grill are gluten free, as we do not use any products in the grill fryers that contain gluten.

Flyer Favorites: Breakfast at Flyer Favorites features hot breakfast buffet items 7 days a week. You can find your breakfast entrees here. At lunch and dinner, you can find your favorite comfort meals here 7 days a week. Additionally, toppings and customizable features for The Grill signature item at dinner will be found at this station when we have takeovers.

Rustic Root: A station that features vegan and vegetarian options. This station is open for brunch and dinner on the weekends and lunch and dinner during the week. There is signage that describes the food and any allergens that may be in it. If you have any questions about the food being served, you can ask the attendant. If the attendant does not know the answer, he/she will ask the kitchen staff to come out and answer the question. Although the food at the station is paired to go together, you may pick and choose what you want rather than get all the options.

Deli: A station with made to order sandwiches available for brunch and dinner on the weekends and lunch during the week. A premium item will be offered at dinner during the week, such as a carved beef brisket or flank steak sandwich. We have gluten free bread available for sandwiches upon request. Please be aware that there is a purple cutting board and purple knives available to make sure people who have allergens can get their food made separately.

Salad Bar: A self-serve station incorporating a variety of fresh vegetables, proteins, grains, and homemade salad dressings. Composed salads are featured, as well.

Berry, Yogurt, & Smoothie Bar: A self-serve station offering an assortment of fresh berries, greens, yogurt, and granola. The granola does contain gluten; there is signage stating this at the station. Blenders are available if you would like to make a smoothie. Recipe signage will provide ideas for possible smoothie combinations.

SimpleZone: An area that is free of gluten, peanuts, and tree nuts. This area has its own designated refrigerator, freezer, microwaves, and toaster. All items are individually wrapped and do not contain gluten, peanuts, or tree nuts. Bagels, bread, muffins, cereals, and frozen entrees can be found in this area. We carry Amy products in this area; these items are both gluten free and vegetarian. This area also has soy milk and oat milk available, as well as gluten free oatmeal. New options will be available in this area, such as vegan or gluten free individually wrapped desserts.

Bella Trattoria: Made to order pasta station that is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. A variety of sauces and toppings are available. It is important to note, the attendants use a new pan for each order. Gluten free pasta is available upon request. We offer a filled pasta once weekly. This station will feature a themed takeover night twice a month. Examples of themed cuisine nights include Indian, Mediterranean, and New Orleans takeovers. Other takeovers include a Risotto Bar, Paella Bar, and Crepe Bar.

Sakura: A made to order stir fry station that is available Monday through Friday at lunch and dinner. This station features a variety of vegetables, proteins, rice or noodles, and choice of sauce for the dish. Gluten free options are available at this station.

Toasting Island: The toasting island is where bread, bagels, waffles, and desserts can be found. We carry both vegan cream cheese and regular cream cheese as options for bagels. Peanut butter packets and jelly packets are also located here.

Ice Cream Station: A station featuring ice cream options from Pittsford Dairy and Byrne Dairy. Sherbet is another option offered. Flavored syrups and toppings are available.

Staff: The front of house supervisors and managers are always available if you have any questions. The back of house supervisors and cooks will answer any questions you may have, as well.

Training: All managers and supervisors are certified in AllerTrain allergen training for proper understanding and procedures in serving and handling food.

Cross-Contact: Our staff is trained on cross-contact and we have procedures in place to minimize this as much as possible.

We take pride in offering many gluten-friendly options in our dining venues on campus. Simple Servings is our dedicated allergen-friendly station that does not serve 8 of the top 9 allergens, including wheat. Although extreme care is taken with a separate production area, equipment, and staff trained on allergens and cross-contact, foods served at this station are prepared in a facility that handles gluten. Additionally, Simple Zone is an area containing individually packaged foods that are gluten-free. We encourage all students looking to avoid gluten to meet with our Registered Dietitian, Megan Dennis, for further guidance on navigating dining options. We strive to provide every student with an exceptional dining experience, accommodating dietary restrictions, while providing a variety of nutritious options.
